Thameslink is a major provider of long-distance train services running from destinations such as Peterborough, Luton and Welwyn Garden City to Three Bridges, Sutton and East Grinstead via central London.

Departing from London Bridge

Trains from London Bridge to Brighton depart from the heart of the city. Situated south-east of the bridge with the same name, London Bridge station is easily accessible. Plenty of buses stop nearby or in the bus station, and there are direct links to the Northern and Jubilee lines.

The main train-operating companies serving London Bridge are Thameslink, Southeastern and Southern. Trains offer connections to Canterbury, Gatwick Airport, Croydon and other destinations.

Arriving at Brighton

Direct trains from London arrive at Brighton station, located in a convenient spot for commuters and visitors on Queens Road. From the station, you can catch one of the many bus routes to the city centre and surrounding areas. Trains are operated by Southern, Thameslink and the Gatwick Express, connecting passengers to Gatwick Airport, Stevenage, Eastbourne and other destinations.

Once you leave Brighton station, you’re around the corner from unique and thrilling attractions. A 15-minute walk takes you to the pebbled beach, Victorian pier and fun-filled rides. Grab something to eat or rummage through the racks of independent shops along North Laine’s alleys. Thameslink train classes

• Standard Class: Travelling in Standard Class includes a comfortable seat, luggage spaces and live information about your train and journey on screen. Seating is arranged in a two-by-two formation. Free WiFi is available on trains with blue WiFi logos on the doors.
• First Class: Located at the front of the train, Thameslink’s London to Brighton First Class carriages offer large tables, plug sockets and roomier, comfier seating. Refreshments aren’t currently provided on board.

No matter which seating class you choose, book as early as possible for the best deals. A Railcard can save around 1/3 on your fare.

Thameslink train travel advice

• Luggage: You can bring a piece of hand luggage and up to two larger bags (no bigger than 90 x 70 x 30 centimetres).
• Bicycles: Trains to and from central London have restrictions on non-folding bikes and e-bikes on board during peak services. No hoverboards or e-scooters are allowed.
• Children: Travel is free for under-5s and typically half price for 5–15-year-olds. £2 off-peak tickets (four maximum) can be purchased when with an adult. The 16–17 Saver Railcard offers 50% off.
• Pets: Two pets on a lead or in a travel cage are permitted.
• Passenger Assist: Help can be booked in advance online or by phone if you need it during any part of your journey, from navigating the station to getting on/off the train. For minimal delays, pre-booking is recommended.
