Getting from Manchester to Wigan with Northern takes forty-five minutes to travel from Manchester Oxford Road. If you travel on the less frequent Manchester Deansgate service, it takes around thirty-five minutes. TransPennine Express, Northern, and CrossCountry use Manchester Victoria.

Departing from Manchester Victoria

Manchester Victoria is one of Manchester’s busiest stations that serves the city's north. It can be found on Station Approach, Todd Street, and, after a huge renovation in 2015, is a good-looking, eye-catching, and modern station to depart from.

It’s easily connected to buses, taxis, and Metrolink trams. Making getting to the station a doddle. A coach station is nearby the station, too. It’s located beside The Printworks entertainment mall. From Manchester Victoria, it’s possible to get to Manchester Piccadilly and Oxford Road by train.

Main stops

There are nine stations between Manchester Victoria and Wigan: Salford Crescent, Swinton, Moorside, Walkden, Atherton, Hag Fold, Daisy Hill, Hindley, and Ince.

However, if you travel from Manchester Deansgate, there are five stations between Manchester Deansgate and Wigan Wallgate: Salford Crescent, Bolton, Westhoughton, and Hindley.

Yet, it’s worth remembering that these may change due to unforeseen events like poor weather, emergency engineering works, or scheduling changes. Checking before travel is advised.

Arriving at Wigan Wallgate

Wigan Wallgate is a small commuter station in Wallgate, Wigan, Lancashire. Local buses serve it, but taxi services are not available directly from the station.

This station is run by Northern, which serves routes going to Manchester, Liverpool, and the surrounding regions of the North West, the North East, as well as Yorkshire and Humberside.

Wigan has been noted for its well-to-do parks like Mesnes Park and Haigh Woodland Park.
