Things to do near Oxford Train Station
Of course, Oxford is known as the centre of all things academe, with its historic universities and their old-world colleges and libraries, dreamy gardens, and literally world-changing research. But Oxford is more than just a trip to the library. It’s packed with interesting and exciting things to do.
Oxford Train Station is only half a mile from the city centre, so walking into the magnificent city centre is perfectly manageable, with history swirling by you as you progress. On your way, you may see the Ashmolean Museum, which, staggeringly, dates back to 1683 and was Britain’s first public museum. You may also pass Oxford University staples, such as Trinity College, Radcliffe Camera, All Souls College and the Bodleian Library. The architecture here is awe-inspiring, and arguably some of the UK’s most beautiful.
Try some of Oxford's historic pubs if you need to put your feet up, too. The Bear Inn is said to date back to 1242, while The King’s Arms was built in 1607 and are both contenders for the city’s oldest public houses. A great pub is The Eagle & Child, where famous authors J.R.R. Tolkien, who wrote The Lord of the Rings, and C.S. Lewis, who wrote The Chronicles of Narnia, would meet regularly.
