Departing from Hull

The fastest train from Hull to Leeds departs from Hull Paragon train station. The main entrance is located on Ferensway, just to the west of the city centre. Since Paragon is an integrated travel interchange, there are 38 bus stands offering services around the city and to destinations further away. There is also a taxi rank outside the entrance.

The station allows onward train travel to the North East coast, with frequent services to Bridlington and Scarborough. There are also direct services to Sheffield and Manchester. The city connects to the East Coast Mainline at Doncaster, with LNER and Hull Trains offering direct trains to London via that route.

Main stops

Some of the intermediate stops between Hull and Leeds are Brough, Gilberdyke, Howden, Selby, South Milford, Micklefield, East Garforth, Garforth and Cross Gates.

Typically, TransPennine Express trains will stop at between two and five of these stations (commonly Brough and Selby). Northern trains usually stop at six or seven of them.

Arriving at Leeds

The cheapest route from Hull to Leeds arrives at Leeds Station. The main entrance is on New Station Street, where there is also a taxi rank. Buses stop directly outside this entrance, as well as at nearby Boar Lane and the rear of the station. From here, you can take advantage of Leeds' well-developed public transport to go anywhere in the city.

Leeds is a major hub station, offering connections across the UK. Trains travel to northern cities such as Sheffield, York and Newcastle; Scottish cities like Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen; as well as heading west to Manchester and Liverpool. There is a range of services travelling south to places like Birmingham, Bristol, Plymouth and Penzance. CrossCountry serves north-eastern and south-western routes, while LNER operates London-bound services.

Leeds is a major UK city. It offers plenty of attractions to visitors who stay awhile. For shopping, the glass-roofed Trinity shopping centre on Albion Street offers a huge range of options, while designer brands can be found at the genteel Victoria Leeds, located just off Vicar Lane. Leeds is hot on nightlife, too, with plenty of places to eat, drink, dance, or watch live music.

• Luggage: There are luggage racks in each carriage, plus overhead rails to hold smaller items.

Northern train travel advice

• Luggage: There is plenty of room for luggage in the dedicated racks, overhead shelves or even underneath the seat in front of you (for smaller bags).
• Bicycles: Bikes can be brought with you, as there are a limited number of spaces for bikes on board.
• Children: Buggies are allowed on board and should be folded down and stored as luggage. If you're travelling with under-5s and they sit on an adult's lap, they generally don't need a ticket. It's possible to save with a Family & Friends Railcard, too.
• Pets: If you want to bring a pet with you, you can! You're limited to two pets per adult. Dogs can be kept on a lead, but other pets need to be in a carrier that isn't kept on a seat. They also mustn't disturb other travellers.
