Barking train station

Barking rail station is a key east London interchange served by National Rail main line and London Overground services. Opening in 1854, it was one of the first stations on the route built by the London, Tilbury and Southend Railway. It is located on Station Parade in the town centre (part of the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham), an area that was once a small village. The original station initially had two platforms before rebuilding works in 1908 and 1959, along with electrifying the railway. The modernist design of the new building with glazed bays and a concrete canopy over the station forecourt was a bold development. Barking station is one of the only mid-20th-century station buildings from the 1960s to be Grade II listed.

Amenities at Barking include cash machines, free Wi-Fi, a café on the main concourse and kiosks on some platforms. Additional shops and cafés are located on Station Parade. Cheap train tickets are available when booked as early as possible, and they can be collected at the ticket machines or the ticket office.
